Merton was born July 2, 1925 to Dwight and Corinne Pooler in Cornell, WI. He passed away December 11, 2011 at his home in Santa Rosa.

Merton served in the United States Navy and served our country during WWII on two aircraft carriers USS RANGER and USS SHANGRI-LA.

On September 9, 1948, Merton and Jean Ann Goosey were united in marriage in Pineville, McDonald County, Missouri. To this union three children were born, a son and 2 daughters. Merton was a Teamster Local 41 for 29 years and drove for Tri Angle Transfer. He loved his family, gardening, hunting, and fishing on the Grand River.

He is preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Malcolm, Brian, Curtis, and Clifford.

Survivors include his wife, three children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
