Marvin apprenticed as a carpenter with his father, Sig Carlson, who was from Sweden and continued his trade in Illinois. In 1942 Marvin moved to Roseville where he was an engineer with Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement. He was active in both Sons in Retirement and the Roseville Historical Society. His hobbies were photography, travel, golf, carpentry, and, with his creative mind, was always learning. Survived by his son Gordon Carlson, his stepson Sam Norris, 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
