Edd Todhunter was for many years a Constable in northern California. A number of articles in the Sacramento Daily Union in the late 19th century reference him in connection with his law enforcement duties. The following recounts an incident in which he (and his wife) were robbed:

ANOTHER HOLD-UP.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Todhunter Robbed Over In Washington. Late last night it was learned that while Mr. and Mrs. Ed Todhunter of Washington, Yolo County, were driving in the outskirts of that town in the evening they encountered four rough-looking men who presented pistols and forced them to stop. The footpads then relieved Mr. Todhunter of his gold watch, a $10 gold piece, two $5 gold pieces and about $5 in silver - $25 in all.
Subsequently a man was arrested on suspicion of being one of the robbers. He had a $5 gold piece and a few dollars in silver in his pockets, and an Industrial Army badge. He claimed to belong to the army at Snow Flake Park, and said he was just out for a walk two miles from camp and in another county.
