He was born September 12, 1925 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Joseph and Frieda Hess.
Joe was a founding member of the Northside Church of God. He served in the Mission Field in Central and South America helping to build churches for the needy. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from the New York Central / Penn Central / Amtrak after forty-two years.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, N. and P. Smith of Springfield; three sons and daughters-in-law, J. and B. Hess of Dallas, Texas, W. (R.) and M. H. of Mechanicsburg, J. and A. H. of Beavercreek; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, M.and R. B. of Dayton; eight grandchildren, A. M. and L. H. of Beavercreek, Z. and C. H. of Mechanicsburg, J. and B. H. of Dallas, Texas, D. S. and J. T. of Columbus; two great-grandchild, A. S. of Columbus and J. J. H .of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, specials friends, neighbors and special friend Norma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of fifty-eight years, Betty (Raines) Hess; three sisters, Sophia Elsia and Frieda; three brothers, Bill, John and Alfred.
