406292 Flight Sergeant Lewis Havelock Christmass was the son of Mary Ann Elizabeth and Lewis Eldred Christmass, his family called him more commonly by his middle name 'Havelock'. He had a brother Donald Cecil Christmass and the family hailed from Subiaco, Perth, Western Australia.Lewis enjoyed sports at school including tennis, cricket, golf and rugby. On leaving school he became a press agent before WW2.
Lewis Christmass was the bomb aimer aboard Lancaster HK-537, 463 Squadron RAAF. His aircraft was involved in a mid-air collision over the island of Als, Denmark on 28th/29th January 1944 when his aircraft had major problems and decided to turn back for England striking Lancaster JA-967, 83 Squadron Pathfinders in the process.
