Early Walworth County Resident Dies This Week
Mrs. John Farrar, early Walworth county pioneer, passed away at her home on South Broad street, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Mrs. Farrar has been an invalid for over twelve years, during which time her husband has taken entire care of her. Her death followed a week's illness after a stroke of paralysis.
Adaresta Wales was born, September 22, 1847, at Plymouth, New York, and was the daughter of Frederick and Laura (Shoales) Wales. At the age of sixteen she came with her parents to Walworth county, settling in Elkhorn.
She was united in marriage November 30. 1871, to John (Walker) Farrar, and they made their home on a farm near Delavan Mound. Thirty-one years ago they left the farm home, coming to Elkhorn, and a little later building the place which has been their home for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Farrar had been married fifty-two years. They celebrated their golden wedding two years ago. Mrs. Farrar was a member of the Congregational church.
Besides her husband three children survive: Harry, of Elkhorn; Will of Chicago; and Laura, Mrs. E. J. Davis. One daughter, Mrs. HiIah Madouse died two years ago. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. T. W. Morefield, and Mrs. G. B. Dunlap; three brothers, Arthur and Walter Wales of Elkhorn and Eli Wales, Long Beach, California.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in the home, Rev. A. B. Bell officiating. The Princess quartet sang. I. A. Travis, H. N. Stubbs, Henry Tubbs, Otis Allen, J. C. Livingston and John MacKenzie acted as pall bearers. The body was laid to rest in Hazel Ridge cemetery.
The following people came to attend the funeral: James Farrar, Mason City, Iowa; Mrs. E. G. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Will Farrar and Mr. and Mrs. W. Moore all of Chicago.
