Robert served as a First Lieutenant on B-29A "City of Hartford" #42-93928, 43rd Bomber Squadron, 29th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Middlesex County, Massachusetts prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 30, 1942 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Sales clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-29A #42-93928 was part of mission #203, which was two separate missions flown on two separate days, which were missions to attack Osaka and Amagasaki urban areas in Japan. These missions included "444" B-29's in the attack. B-29A #42-93928 was one of " 2 " B-29's lost on these missions.

They took off during the first mission, with a crew of 11, from the North Field in Guam on this bombing mission over Japan. Approximately 12 miles north of Guam they, for an unknown reason, went into a steep bank to the left and then crashed into the sea. Despite the efforts of multiple rescue ships none of the crew were every found. The entire crew of " 11 " were lost in this crash.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
