Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in Breathitt County on September 23, 1862. He served as a Private in Company G, 13th Kentucky Cavalry which later became the 10th Regiment Kentucky Infantry. He was captured as a POW on July 9, 1863 at Gladesville VA. He was then sent to Camp Douglas, IL as a POW. From there he enlisted in the Union Navy on December 23, 1863 and discharged on April 15, 1865. His MOH citation reads "As landsman on board the USS Metacomet, Noble served among the boat's crew which went to the rescue of the US Monitor Tecumseh when that vessel was struck by a torpedo in passing enemy forts in Mobile Bay, 5 August 1864. Noble braved the enemy fire, which was said by the admiral to be "one of the most galling" he had ever seen, and aided in rescuing from death 10 of the crew of the Tecumseh, thereby eliciting the admiraton of both friend and foe".
