Mildred Joy McGhee, 86, passed away at her home in Jerome, Idaho, on Saturday, March 22, 2014, after an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 31, 1927 in Cedar Grove, Oklahoma, to Nellie and Amos Haynes. In 1940 their family, which included four children, moved to Jerome.

Mildred was working as a clerk in a local shop when she met Barnie McGhee who, after serving in the Army during World War II, had moved to Idaho from Arkansas and was employed at the local hardware store. They were married Dec. 4, 1946. In 1956, they bought an 80-acre farm north of town where they raised their four children.

Barnie had a home-based appliance repair business and both he and Mildred drove school buses and operated their own fast food restaurant in town. Twelve years later in 1968, they sold the farm and moved into their final home in Jerome. Both were employed at the Tupperware manufacturing plant south of town until it shut down in 1988.

Mildred had an artistic "eye" and enjoyed drawing and crafting, as well as sewing and needlework (embroidery, crochet and quilting). An inspiration to all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister.

Mildred was married to Barnie for 50 years at the time of his death in December 1996.

She is survived by her special grandchild, Charles Jones; her children: Larry (Linda) McGhee, of Boise, ID, Linda (Steve) Kerr, of Canyon Country, CA, David McGhee, of Las Vegas, NV, and Bonnie Lea Durfee, of Hansen, ID; her siblings: Earl Haynes, Marvin Haynes and June (David) McClellan; her grandchildren: Tammy Ripley, Tracy Stewart, Terry McGhee, Chris McCracken and Tony McCracken; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

At Mildred's request, she was cremated and no service is planned. Please remember her as you knew her.

Arrangements are under the direction of Demaray's Jerome Memorial Chapel.
