Alan Dexter Sweeney, 67, Holden, Missouri, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, at home. He was born April 14, 1946 in Whitefield, New Hampshire the son of Edward and Beulah (Forbes) Sweeney.

Mr. Sweeney was a veteran of the Vietnam war and received a Purple Heart in that conflict. Following military service he worked as a carpenter in Goosecreek, South Carolina. On May 15, 2012 he married Dianne Stewart. He was a member of American Legion Post 1006 in Goosecreek.

He had lived in Holden for a year.

Surviving are his wife, Dianne, of the home; one son, Scott Sweeney, Goosecreek, SC; a step-daughter, Trina Scoda, Kingsville, MO; a brother, Steve Sweeney, and two sisters, Alberta Parsons, and Jean Sweeney, all in New Hampshire; and nine grandchildren.

Following cremation there will be a committal service with military honors at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans' Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, MO.
