OBITUARY
Duane Richard "Honk" Hartman, 69, of the Town of Black Wolf, with the aid of God's gentle hand at his home, was lifted up into the saddle one last time and Honk rode off into the "Western Sky" on Sunday, July 15, 2012. His family was nearby watching him disappear into the horizon on his way to be greeted by those on the other side. Duane was born at the family home in the Town of Black Wolf to the late Harvey and Ereta (Erdman) Hartman on April 5, 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Army for three years stationed in Germany and Washington, D.C. where he was a chaffeur in President Kennedy's funeral procession. He then worked on his uncle's ranch in North Dakota for two years and then returned to Oshkosh and worked at Pepsi-Cola for 42 years until his retirement. Duane was very active in his church, St. John Lutheran Church in Nekimi, where he served on the church council and served as the council president twice. He also had been a volunteer fireman on the Van Dyne Fire Department. Honk loved gardening, fishing, and riding horses, especially "Lucky" with his good friend Ron Klemm.
Survivors include and his memory will be cherished by his wife of 27 years, Pamela (Gates) Hartman; his daughter, Denise Jarvela; a son, David and stepsons, Patrick and Sean Hutchinson. Grandchildren, Amber (Greg) Cunningham, Chace Holst, Mackenzie and Riley Hartman, Aiden and Anslyn Hutchinson; his siblings, Marlene (Gary Bremer) Hartman, Norbert (Rose) Hartman and Marvis (Jan) Hartman; niece Kristin (Michael) Brady and nephews, Bob (Nena) Hartman, Michael Hartman, Jim (Lisa) Hartman, John (Kat) Hartman and Jesse Graham. He is further survived by numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and many very dear friends.
A memorial service celebrating Duane's life will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church in Nekimi, (the corner of Old Oregon Rd. and County Rd. Z). A time of visitation and support will be held for the Hartman family at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will full military honors will follow the service in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial fund is being established. The family wishes a special thank you to Travis Stadler, also to the "girls" at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center at Aurora Medical Center; Michael Hartman for all of his physical help and support and to Seth Hodgen and his dog Summer (a special friend of Duane's). Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the: Fiss & Bills Poklisny Funeral Homes and Crematory, Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
