SILER CITY - Van Clark Andrew, 84, of Siler City, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, of aplastic anemia.
The funeral and burial will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 3, at Rocky River Baptist Church, 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City, NC 27344.
He was a graduate of Siler City High School and a World War II veteran, having served as a motor pool sergeant in Japan and the Philippines. He was a member and past deacon of Rocky River Baptist Church, where he had 34 years of perfect attendance. He worked 50 years for Chatham Foods and enjoyed part time farming.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, William A. and Lola Clark Andrew and by siblings, A. J., Helen, Burton, Clark and an infant sister, Edna.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Ruby Smith Andrew; son, Donald Andrew and his wife, Cindy and his sons, Craig and Tim; daughter, Betty Andrew Marsh and her husband, Paul, and their daughter, Molly; daughter, Beth Andrew Taylor and her husband, Norwood and their daughters, Mary and Janice. He is also survived by Amy Smith Olsen and her three children, Serena Smith Fristoe and her husband, Russell; a granddaughter-in-law; step grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, N.C.
Memorials can be made to the general fund of the church. The family also requests that those who are able become regular blood or platelet donors.
