PRATHER FAMILY CEMETERY

[birth year ca 1739 used because if d. 1806 at "AGED 82", his parents would have been too young. ref PRATER, PRATHER IN AMERICA , 1620-1800, vol II, JW Prather Jr, pg 104]

"There are 35-45 upright stones, many without inscriptions. A single large monument (obelisk) approximately 4'9" was erected in 1866 by the Prather family in memory of deceased family members. Stones arranged in a circular shape."

As part of Aaron Prather's involvement in the Montgomery County community, in 1777 he was appointed as the overseer for road improvement:

"30. From Mill Branch to George Robinson's bridge, and the road that leads from William Beckwith's mill to Dent's mill."

This is the location of the old Prather family homestead. There are no longer any buildings here, but recently a sandstone obelisk was uncovered at the top of the hill, near the gas line. It is a marker erected in 1866 by descendants of the Prather family. There are a number of tombstones and many triangular-hewn stones - some with initials, but mostly unmarked.
