LEWISTOWN - Charles W. "Bill" Benfer Jr., 95, of Chestnut Street, Beaver Springs, passed away early on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Golden LivingCenter - William Penn in Lewistown.He was born on Feb. 6, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late C.W. and Blanche (Manbeck) Benfer.Mr. Benfer was a graduate of Beaver Vocational High School.After school, he served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific.Bill worked as a farmer and also had his own milk route. He later worked for many years at Haines Music in Selinsgrove, fixing and repairing instruments.Mr. Benfer was a member of the Beaver Lutheran Church.He enjoyed gardening, watching birds, golfing, fishing and was an avid Phillies and Penn State fan.Bill was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5640 in Middleburg.Surviving are: numerous cousins, including Holly Haines, Jo and Allen Henry and Dennis and Frances Herbster; and his special friends, Susan Blazer, John Mitchell, William Mitchell and Allison Mitchell and families.A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Nathan Baker-Trinity officiating.Friends and family will be received from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.Burial with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at Adamsburg Cemetery in Beaver Springs.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA, 17011 or to the Beaver Springs Fire Co., 1015 Center Ave., Beaver Springs, PA 17812.
