Born James Howard, to parents Martin Patrick Constantine & Cora Noel Constantine, he preferred the use of his middle name. He married Flora Jackson Breeden. She was the daughter of Willis & Mary Stewart Jackson and the former wife of Albert Breeden. He provided a home for her children, from her previous marriage, Naomi Pearl and Alfred Earl Breeden.

Mr. Constantine was employed, as a foreman, at the Campbell Tobacco Co. in Louisville. He was killed, instantly, when he fell from a third story window, at their factory.
