Niagara Falls Gazette, Friday, August 25, June 1944: Lockport Man Is Killed in Action - Lockport - Motor Machinist's Mate Second Class Clarence Bates, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Bates, FD 5, Lockport, reported missing in action to a naval communique on July 18, 8s now listed as killed in action, the Navy department announced yesterday. He was employed by the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors corporation before he enlisted in the navy. He served in the naval force which supported the invasion of Italy and other operations in the European theater.
