Spc. James C. Kesinger, 32, of Pharr, Texas, was killed Dec. 13 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV while his unit was conducting combat operations in Taji, Iraq.

Kesinger was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor as a health care specialist.

He entered in the Army in through the National Guard in 2001 and then enlisted in the reserves in 2002. He became active duty in 2004 and arrived at Fort Riley in June 2004.

This was Kesinger's second deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
