HESTON, Joseph S., Esq.

Passed away on Friday, December 16, 2005, at Eskaton. A native of Evansville, IN, he was born July 20, 1916, the son of Joseph S. Heston, Sr., and Evadine Noble Heston.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Diane, age 10. He is survived by his wife Lois of Carmichael, brother Phillip and wife Edna, sister Mary Ellen Hopson, all of Evansville, IN; brother-in-law Jim Kiesling & wife Maryellen and sister-in-law Pat Kiesling MacLeod, all of Sacramento, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Indiana University and Indiana University School of Law, and was licensed to practice law in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and California. He previously worked in Louisville, KY, and Baltimore, MD, before coming to Sacramento.

Before retiring in 1979, he served as Vice President and General Counsel for California Western States Life Insurance Company. He was the National Vice-President of the Cystic Fibrosis Association, and past President of the Sacramento Symphony Foundation.

A member of the Chamber of Commerce and on the Education Committee, he became interested in American River College and was elected and served as trustee for 13 years. He was also the chairman of the Founding Committee to form Los Rios Community College. He served as President of the Board of Trustees for American River College from 1963-64, and was the first President of the Board of Trustees for Los Rios from 1965-66, and on the board from 1965-1973. Joseph was a member of the Del Paso Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and served as a past president of North Ridge Country Club.

Upon retirement he enjoyed golf and photography and world travel with his wife. His favorite countries for photography were Russia, China, Japan, Egypt, and India, and he won several photo contests from his foreign photos. He was first introduced to photography with the gift of a camera where his first pictures of European countries were enjoyed by many of his friends who encouraged him to take more pictures.

At his request, no services will be held. Remembrances may be made in his name to the Sacramento Children's Home, 2750 Sutterville Road, Sac., CA 95820, to the Northern California Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, (415) 331-0650, or to the charity of your choice.
