John Baird, son of William Baird and his wife Eliza Baird, a native of Westmeath Township, Renfrew County, and a resident of Carleton Place for 32 years died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs.James E. Crawford, William Street, August 1939. Mr. Baird was in his 73rd year, has been active until his death, caused by a heart affection. Mr. Baird was married to Catherine Hamilton in Alice Township. they lived in Pembroke and Marathon before coming to Carleton Place. Mrs. Baird died at her home here in 1937. John Baird was a carriage maker for many years and was actively engaged until recently. For a number of years he was caretaker for Central Public School and held the same position at the former Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons; Harry and Alvin of Carleton Place and Leslie of Yonkers, N. Y.; two daughters, Mrs James E. Crawford (Pearl) of Carleton Place and Mrs. Willard Rowlands (Myrtle) of Utica N. Y. Three sisters - Mrs. Thompson Kilgore of Vimy Ridge, Ont., Mrs William Major and Mrs. Margaret Baird of Ottawa; one brother, James of Westmeath Township, Renfrew County, also surviving.
