DEATH SUMMONS MRS. SUSAN P. MAHAN

Aged Woman Was Daughter of Early Lexington Teacher. Funeral Friday.

Mrs. Susan P. Mahan, one of Lexington's oldest and most highly respected citizens, passed away at the home of her stepson, William Robert Mahan, west of Lexington, at 3:30 o'clock Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1931, after an extended illness resulting from the disabilities of old age.
During the declining months of her earthly life, Mrs. Mahan was most tenderly cared for in the home of her stepson, William Robert Mahan and family.
Susan Frances Poor, daughter of Daniel and Susan (Thompson) Poor, was born in Fox Bow, Mass. on August 4, 1841. She attended school in the east. When a young girl she moved to Lexington with her parents, her father being superintendent of the Lexington Schools many years ago. She also taught in the Lexington school.
She was married to Jacob Curtis Mahan on Sept. 2, 1873. They were the parents of 3 children and only one, Miss Angeline Mahan, of Boise City, Idaho, survives. Mrs. Mahan was the oldest and last surviving of a family of 8 children. Two sisters, Miss Mary Poor and Mrs. Sara P. Work, passed away in Lexington during the past few years.
Mrs. Mahan was early affiliated with the Congregational Church, but since her residence in Lexington, she had been a faithful and ardent member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a woman of rare culture and education and was keenly appreciative of the best things of life. She was also a charter member of the Lexington Woman's Club, and as long as her health permitted, was very active in the work of the club.
Funeral Services will be held from the Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. Friday conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.S. Martin. Burial will be made in the Lexington Cemetery.
