Paul served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17G #42-107138, 603rd Bomber Squadron, 398th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Grafton County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

B-17G #42-107138 took off from Nuthampstead, England on a bombing mission to Merseburg, Germany. After successfully releasing their bombs they were attacked by German Fighters that severely damaged the #2 engine and also hit the #4 engine causing them to crash near Merseburg, Germany during the war.

Paul was "Killed In Action" in this attack.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
