In August of 1832, the family emigrated to Philadelphia where their fourth child, Margaretha was born in December of 1833. By the birth of their next daughter Catherine in about 1835, they had settled in Wilmot Township in Waterloo County, Ontario where Jacob purchased and worked a farm. (His occupation is listed as "yeoman" in the 1861 census.) The remainder of the children were born here:
Philip (1838- 1912)
John (1840 - 1896)
Elizabeth (1845-1829)
Henry (1847 - 1918)
By the time of the 1871 Canadian census, Jacob and Elizabeth were living with their son Philip and his family. In 1876 Jacob died after being ill with consumption for about two years.
