Dad was born in Bentonville, Arkansas, son of William Ernest Patton and Nell Dickson Patton. In the early 1940's he married Barbara Whitney. After completing medical school at Yale University, Dad and Mom moved to Seattle, Washington, where Dad helped start the Physiology and Biophysics Department at the University of Washington. He subsequently was Chairman of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics in 1965 until his retirement. Dad loved Seattle and especially loved being on his boat, the "Neuron" and the "Neuron II." He loved playing his guitar and singing, boating, New York Times crosswords, woodworking, he was an avid reader. He and Mom spent many summers cruising up to the San Juans, Canada, and Alaska. Sweet natured, loving, funny, smart and musical, Dad is very much missed by his family and friends. Children are Ann (Patton) Bentley and Betsy (Elizabeth Patton) Carlson.
