Company H "Black Horse Cavalry", 4th Virginia Cavalry, Wickham's/Mumford's Brigade, Fitz. Lee's Division, Cavalry, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Warrenton, VA.
Enlisted 4/25/1861 for 12 months' Service at Warrenton, VA., he was mustered into "H" Co. VA 4th Cavalry as a Private.
Absent, Sept & Oct 1861 thru Jan & Feb 1862 Rolls, on special detail as clerk with Major General Van Dorn.
Absent, March & April thru Jan & Feb 1864 Rolls, on special detail as clerk in Commissary Dept., Army of Western Tennessee.
Absent, hospitalized March & April 1864 Roll in C.S.A. General Hospital, Houston, TX. with "tubercular diathesis" (lesser form of TB) and debility; returned to duty 4/25/1864.
Oath of Allegiance, 8/4/1865, Houston, TX.

Postwar, having married Jennie L. in Warrenton, VA. in 1871, he later lived in Newport News, VA.
On 4/26/1923, his widow, still living in Newport News, applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension. She was approved 6/13/1923 for $19.00 per annum.

The 4th Cavalry Regiment, "Escorts to Gen. Stonewall Jackson", completed its organization at Sangster's Cross Roads, Prince William County, Virginia, in September, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Prince William, Chesterfield, Madison, Culpeper, Powhatan, Goochland, Hanover, Fauquier, Buckingham, and the City of Richmond.
It participated in the Battle of Williamsburg, the Seven Days' Battles, 2nd Manassas, Maryland campaigns, Fredericksburg, Kelly's Ford, Chancellorsville, Brandy Station, Upperville, Gettysburg, Bristoe, Mine Run, The Wilderness, Todd's Tavern, Spotsylvania, Haw's Shop, Bethesda Church, the Shenandoah Valley with Early and around Appomattox.
