Mrs David E. Snedden
There passed to rest at her home of Church street on Thursday evening, December 20th one of the town's best loved citizens in the person of Mrs David E. Snedden following an illness of several months. Had she lived, Mrs Snedden would have observed her 88th birthday on Saturday but instead the day was marked by her funeral. Born on the 7th line of Ramsay Township where Mr Milton Cochran now lives, deceased, whose maiden name was Ellen Cochran, was a daughter of the late Andrew Cochran and his wife, Isabel Erskine. On June 6, 1881 she was married to David E. Snedden and they resided on the 8th line of Ramsay Township, on the farm now owned by Mr John Snedden. Her husband died in 1916 and since 1918 she had resided with her daughter, Miss Laura Snedden in Almonte. Left to mourn are five daughters, Isabel, Mrs W.J. Warren, Carleton Place; Laura, at home; Nellie, Mrs L. Naismith; Mable, Mrs Peter Syme and Elizabeth, Mrs Ernest Robertson. Of her immediate family only one sister survives, Jennie, Mrs Thos C. Philip of Forest Grove, Oregan who is in her 95th year. There are also seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs Snedden enjoyed the esteem of a wide circle of friends, was very hospitable and had a cheerful kindly outlook on life. She was a member of Bethany United Church. The funeral which was held from her late residence on Saturday afternoon was very largely attended. The service at the home was conducted by Rev W.J. Scott assisted by Rev Wm Aird. The pallbearers were Messrs Peter Syme, Ernest Robertson, W.R. Cochran, Milton Cochran, John Snedden and D.W. Snedden. A profusion of floral tributes testified to the esteem in which deceased was held. The remains were place in the Auld Kirk Cemetery vault.
