MRS. ADDIE TAWES BURIED YESTERDAY

Mrs. Addie B. Tawes, widow of the late Isaac
H. Tawes, and one of the community's most
prominent matrons, died at her home on
Somerset Avenue on Tuesday. She was 87
years of age. Mrs. Tawes had been in ill health
for a number of years, and had been confined
to her bed or a wheel chair for a long time.
She was the daughter of the late Washington
S. and Julia Potter Croswell, and was born near
this city.

Mrs Tawes was a lady with striking personality,
vivacious, energetic, intelligent, and she kept
abreast of current topics both local and
national. She was a charitable nature, and
many deeds of kindness were performed by
her of which only she and the ones she helped
knew about. She was kind and generous, and
she had a wide circle of friends who held her
in affection and esteem. She probably will be
best remembered for her church work. For
years she was a Sunday School teacher in
Immanuel Church, and for just about as many
years, a leading member of the senior choir
there. Her love of music and singing, was characteristically applied to make enjoyment
for others, and she was never happier than
when she was employed in church work,
practicing and singing hymns, and helping in
the many other activities that marked the
growth and influence of Immanuel through the
years. Even when confined to her home with
illness for the past years, she loved company,
and was delighted when friends called, and
especially some of the scholars she had taught
and choir members she had sang with and
helped train.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday in Immanuel Methodist Church, with
the pastor, the Rev J. Howard Link,
officiating.

Burial was in the Crisfield Cemetery.

Surviving her are a niece, Mrs. Thomas C. Hill,
of this city, daughter of her sister and brother
in-law, the late Mr. and Mrs. James C. Tawes;
two greatnephews, John Holmes of Crisfield
and Dr. Thomas C. Hill, Jr., of Salisbury; and
a great-neice, Miss Margaret C. Hill of
Springfield, Mass.

Bearers were Fred Cullen, Wm. A. Martin, Jr.,
Major C. Todd, Horace Evans, Norris Evans and
Archie Tyler, all members of the senior choir
of Immanuel Methodist Church.
