Samuel "Snookie" Poe DARLINGTON - Samuel "Snookie" Poe, husband of the late Sarah Sims Poe, of Darlington died on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 4 PM in the First Original Free Will Baptist Church, directed by Kistler Hardee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the church and other times at the home, 136 Wire Road, Darlington. The committal service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10 AM with Military Honors in the Florence National Cemetery. Samuel or affectionately known as "Snookie" by close family and friends was born in Darlington County. He was the son of the late Earl Herbert and Lucy Arlies Strickland Poe. A lifelong member of the First Original Free Will Baptist Church in Darlington, where he served the church in many different capacities until his health declined. He enjoyed refereeing in the Pee Dee area for the South Carolina Independent School Association with his friends and spending time with his family. "Snookie" also served his country in the United States Navy and he was very instrumental in raising funds for the American Legion Baseball Program for many years. Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Poe of Darlington; special sister-in-law, Vera Sims Strickland of Darlington; and other close family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester Laverne Poe and Frankie J. Poe
