Noreen is survived by her husband, Larry, her sisters, Maxine, Janet & Susan, Larry's sister, April & Dave Allen, whom Noreen raised and considered a daughter, Brent (son) & Mary Lee Hafen, Karen (daughter) & Jason Charlesworth, Sarah (daughter) & Alan Olpin, and 17 grandchildren.
She grew up in a loving home where she was provided opportunities to develop many talents, one of which was music. She had a lovely singing voice and was also skilled with many musical instruments including piano, guitar, and accordion.
Cedar City was Noreen's beloved home for 40 years. Even after she and Larry moved to northern Utah a few years ago to be closer to their children, she still considered Cedar City her home. She first came to Cedar City in 1961 as a Student at the College of Southern Utah (Now Southern Utah University) where she earned a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. She taught second grade at Cedar City's East Elementary for 23 years. She was a favorite teacher who made learning fun and engaging particularly through the use of music in the classroom. Students loved both learning concepts and having fun through singing along with her on the guitar. She was also fluent in pig Latin which greatly amused the students.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and found great joy and purpose in serving others. She particularly loved serving in the primary with children of all ages. She spent many years as a teacher and as a primary chorister. She also found joy serving her Relief Society sisters. Most, if not all, of the sisters of the Cedar 5th ward consistently received a birthday card each year with a personal, uplifting note.
Most of all, Noreen was a loving an dedicated mother who cared greatly for her children and taught them true principles of life and the gospel. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the LDS Cedar City Utah Stake Center (155 East 400 South). A Viewing will be held from 6:00-730: p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Midland Farms Ward (3845 S 2000 W, Roy Utah) and on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Cedar City Utah Stake Center. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
In Lieu of flowers, donations to the LDS Church missionary fund would be appreciated
