She was born December 27, 1922, in Neelys Landing, daughter of Charles F. and Bessie Lou (Sides) Clingingsmith. Helen and Leroy Humes were married July 22, 1943. He passed away July 5, 2001.
Helen was a graduate of Jackson High School. She worked at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson, retiring in 1985. Helen was a lifelong member of New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahantos and active in the WMU at the church. She was an avid bowler for many years, enjoyed going to the Jackson Senior Center, and playing cards.
Loving survivors include two sons and daughter in laws, Larry and Audrey Humes and Charles and Lucille Humes all of Jackson; daughter and son in law, Marty and Kevin Manes of St. Charles; seven grandchildren, Cherie Harris, Tim Humes, Tisha Hect, Cara Griffith, Kristin Ratcliff, Elizabeth Adair, and Kent Manes; and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Alvin and George Clingingsmith, and two sisters, Beulah Dickerson and Onis Sides.
Friends may call Monday, March 31, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM at McCombs Funeral home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Grant officiating. Interment will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery near Pocahantas.
