Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Archie William Lake passed away April 23, 1999 at the age of 80.

He was born in Boise, Idaho, April 5, 1919, son of Archie William and Emma Idona Petersen Lake. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie I. Lake and seven children: James W. (Isabella), Thomas A. (Sharon), Patricia Ann Slade (Darwin), Barbara L. Thomas (Craig), John S. (Kelly), DeDe Machin (Jeff) and Joann Gibb (Doug) all of Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Whitney of Logan and Betty Ann Egge of Seattle, Washington.

Bill was orphaned in Boise at the age of 12 when he and his two sisters were separated. He went to live with an uncle and aunt in Salt Lake City, and his sisters with an aunt in Ogden. He attended the University of Washington for two years and was then called to the Japanese Mission in the Territory of Hawaii. Two years later he attended the U. S. Coast Guard Training Station in Port Hueneme, California. He spent the next two years aboard several different ships as a Seaman 1st Class. In 1944 he was appointed to the Coast Guard Officer Training School in San Pedro, CA. He participated in the invasion of New Guinea, Sicily and Okinawa. After the war he was discharged by the U. S. Coast Guard as a Lt. Jr. grade.

On April 14th 1947 he married Marjorie Seare in the Salt Lake L. D. S. Temple. He was active in the L. D. S. Church most of his life, serving in various capacities including Elders Quorum President, Bishops Councilor and Bishop of the Tustin, California 2nd Ward, High Priest Group Leader and served three years as a Data Processing Missionary.

He worked for the Pillsbury Co. As a regional manager for 25 years. After retiring from the Pillsbury Co., he returned to Salt Lake City and owned and operated the Hungry Guy Drive Inns. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and was an inspiration to all his descendants. He will be missed by all. Much of the success in his life, he attributes to the love and support of his dear wife, Marjorie.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 1999, 12 noon, Union 2nd Ward Chapel, 1535 E. Creek Road (7830 South). A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Ward 10:30-11:45 a.m. before the service. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery/Mortuary.
