George married first Frances Sladden in Kent, England. They came to the US in 1854 and spent some time in Pittsburgh, where their first child was born (William, 1854). They then went to Goodhue County, Minnesota where three more children were born (Charles, 1856; Frances, ca 1859 - ca 1861; Eliza, 1862). Frances died in childbirth, as did a fifth child at Stanton, Goodhue, Minnesota. Their burial place is unknown.
George then married a widow, Celestia Fulton Fritz. Three children were born to this union (George, 1865 & Susie, 1866 survived) Celestia and the last child died in childbirth at Wilton, Waseca, Minnesota in June of 1869. The burial place of Celestia and child is unknown.
George was unable to care for the remaining 5 children and gave his two daughters to adoption.
