"Funeral services for Michael Juan Landry will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Hattiesburg. Mr. Landry, 67, of Cloudcroft, NM, died March 21 in El Paso, TX, after a long illness.

Visitation at the church at 12:30 p.m. will precede the service. Interment will follow at Roseland Park Cemetery in Hattiesburg. Services are under the direction of Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.

A longtime resident of Hattiesburg, who contributed greatly to the city's life and was active in a broad range of its civic, charitable and cultural institutions, Mr. Landry was born in Mobile, AL, on July 14, 1946. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1964, studied at Auburn University and, in 1970, was awarded a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from University of Southern Mississippi. He joined the firm of Landry and Landry Architects, eventually becoming the firm's president (as Landry and Lewis Architects), a position he held until his retirement in 1999. For the next three years, Mr. Landry and his wife toured the United States in a motor home, and they settled in the mountaintop community of Cloudcroft, NM.

A member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Mr. Landry was certified to practice in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Texas by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He was a past president of the Hattiesburg Rotary Club and a board member of the Hattiesburg Country Club. He also served for many years as president of the City of Hattiesburg Planning Commission, was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and served on several international committees of the AIA dealing with healthcare.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Landry was named Hattiesburg's Outstanding Young Man of the Year and one of Mississippi's Outstanding Young Leaders. He was also active in the work of the American Red Cross, Forrest-Lamar United Way, Salvation Army and Heart Fund. He served as a Captain of the Krewe, Hattiesburg Civic Association; and with the Hattiesburg Civic Arts Council and Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera. In Hattiesburg, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and, after his retirement to Cloudcroft, a member of the Church of the Epiphany.

Mr. Landry is survived by his wife, Janet Piccinati Landry of Cloudcroft; two sons, Christian (Wife Ashley) Landry of Hattiesburg and Briant Landry of Baton Rouge, LA; his mother, Betty Landry of Hattiesburg; one brother, David (Wife Vicky) Landry of Hattiesburg; three grandsons: Tyler Landry of Kansas City, MO; Michael Landry of Fort Pierce, FL and Wade Landry of Hattiesburg; one nephew, Jason (Wife Mandy) Landry of Hattiesburg; and one niece, Tiffany Landry of Hattiesburg.

His father, Juan Emmett Landry, also of Hattiesburg, precedes him in death.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Church of the Epiphany, P.O. Box 664, Cloudcroft, NM 88317."
