Lela M. Rogers, 65, of Smith Center, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010. She was born May 25, 1945 in Smith Center, Kansas to Ancel and Erma (Baetz) Conaway.
She attended school in Smith Center graduating in 1963. She was united in marriage to Jim Rogers on May 8, 1964 at the United Methodist Church in Smith Center. To this union, a son Michael James was born and they resided in Downs, KS running the HyKlas grocery store. In 1974, they moved back to Smith Center. Lela was an office worker at Scrivner-Boogaarts for 20 years and was the Smith County Clerk until her health failed.
Survivors: husband, Jim; son Mike and wife Cally; grandsons Colt, Clint, and Cale all of Smith Center. Wilma Hughes and husband Don of SC, sister; Elsie Witke of Monrovia, IN, sister; Mary Conaway of Hutchinson, KS, sister-in-law; Lynn Conaway and wife Audrey of Central City, NE, brother; Lyle Conaway and wife Sue of Fort Smith, AR, brother; Ken Johanek of Esbon, KS, brother-in-law; Charlie and wife Darlene of Hays, KS, brother-in-law; Johanna Rogers, Blue Springs, MO, sister-in-law; Jeff Rogers and wife Janice of Elk Horn, NE, brother-in-law; Jerry Rogers and wife Jan of Independence, KS, brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Preceded in death: Ancel and Erma Conaway, parents; Bernard and Roger Conaway, brothers; Milton and Theo Rogers, in laws; Carla Johanek, sister-in-law; and Merlin Rogers, brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Friday October 15, 2010 at the Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Greg Hubbard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center.
Visitation will be held from 5PM until 8PM Thursday at the mortuary.
