Mary P. Sharp, 90, of Sun City Center, Fla., passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

She was born Sept. 2, 1917, in Herrin, Ill.

Mary attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. She married Roylance H. Sharp of Nutley, N.J., in 1940. During World War II, she was a receptionist at Retail Credit Company in New York City. After the birth of her daughter, Carolyn Hall, in 1944, she opted for the life of a housewife par excellence. She was interested in people, the arts and gourmet cooking. She shared with her husband a love of good symphony orchestras, as well as dance bands of the '30s and '40s. She also shared her husband's devotion to the theatre organ, traveling many miles to hear the top organists of the day.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Roylance; and daughter, Carolyn (Thomas) Hamilton. She was cremated, in accordance with her wishes.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Sun City Center.

The family has established the Mary P. Sharp Memorial Fund at the Visual Arts Center Endowment Trust, 210 Maud St., Punta Gorda, FL 33950, to recognize her love of the visual arts.
