Corporal [Windom A.] Allen died Friday morning at West Haven, Ct. in the United States military hospital No. 16 of bronchial pneumonia. He was an only son. He was born in Windsor, February 21, 1891, a descendant of the Allens who conducted saw-mills in that town for many years. He was educated at the Adams high school and at Williston seminary and was graduated from Tufts college in 1916. He specialized in chemistry. After graduation he took a position at the Hatch experimental station of the Massachusetts agricultural college. This position he held until he was called to Camp Devens in the first 50 per cent [draft] quota. He was at once made corporal. He was transferred to Washington, D.C. , in the chemical services and worked for a month in the American university experimental station. He began to study for the officers’ training school when he contracted pneumonia. He was sent to the [Walter] Reed hospital for treatment and later to the hospital at West Haven. He was a young man of promising future, and his passing has caused morning among a large circle of friends. Beside his mother, widow of the late Alpheus Allen, he is survived by a sister Miss Marguerite Allen of Dalton and two grandparents…
