Married Elizabeth "Betty" Raymond (11/3/1760-12/21/1837) on 5/3/1781 in Bedford, Westchester County NY.

James and Elizabeth had 13 children, 6 girls and 7 boys all born in New Paltz, NY:
1. Ira Pardee (6/7/1782-3/31/1836)
2. Esther Pardee (1/10/1784-5/21/1862). On 1/10/1784 married Solomon Gerow in New Paltz, NY and had 13 children.
3. Elizabeth Pardee (10/18/1785-1848). On 9/24/1808 married Augustine Dickerson in New Paltz, NY.
4. Ephraim Pardee (8/21/1787-4/7/1859)
5. Charity Pardee (3/31/1789-1/19/1867). On 1/15/1814 married Samuel Raymond in New Paltz, NY.
6. Levi Pardee (3/29/1791-2/7/1837)
7. Noah Pardee (12/4/1792-1/5/1865). Married Mary Coons.
8. Hannah Pardee (9/7/1794-6/17/1867). On 1/9/1820 married Jacob I Coons in Olive, NY.
9. Phineas Pardee (4/23/1796-8/2/1856)
10. Isaac Pardee (5/3/1799-4/7/1872)
11. Ozi Pardee (3/12/1800-7/27/1888)
12. Anna Pardee (9/3/1802-2/1/1883). Never married.
13. Armenia R. Pardee (10/15/1804-2/24/1893). On 4/27/1852 married Richard Platt in Milford, CT. She was his second wife and they had no children.

James moved when he was a young man with his father, to New Paltz, Ulster County, NY. It was always understood in the family that he and his brother Lemuel Pardee (1759-1841) served in the American Revolutionary War and that while in the service he first met Miss Raymond, who became his wife, while stopping for dinner at her father's house in Bedford, Westchester County, NY.*

The story is also told that his widow made application for a pension, and that the papers were lost. She thereupon remarked that his discharge papers were of no use to anybody, and destroyed them in the presence of her granddaughter Miss Libbie Coons, at whose mother's home in Olive, NY she lived. The records of the Pension Bureau show that Mrs. Pardee applied for a pension on 8/29/1837, James having served about 2 1/2 months in 1776 and 1777 under Capt. Phineas Beardsley in Col. Jospeh P. Cooke's Connecticut Regiment, and 3 months in 1779 or 1780 in Capt. Benjamin Hicock's Co., Major Starr's Connecticut Regiment., and for 5 or 6 months in 1782 in Capt. Samuel Crane's Connecticut Whale Boat Co. under Major Fitch. These records show that he died 8/18/1810, which is also given as the date of his death in the family bible. The widow's claim was not allowed, as she failed to furnish proof of 6 months' actual military service as then required by pension laws, the whale boat service not being considered.

Exact location of his burial is unknown. Believed to be in New Paltz, NY. Please contact me if you find it.

* Another descendant (Miss Irma Gerow) adds the following: "The family traditions state that the father of Elizabeth Raymond was a member of Clan Raymond in Scotland and married a member of the Ruthven family. He ran away with his wife and brought her to the American Colonies, where he set up a tavern in Bedford, NY. During the American Revolutionary War he and his wife went to New York to buy supplies, and left two daughters, a son, and a colored man and woman at home. Early in the evening the family heard thieves stealing their chickens. Elizabeth immediately found a gun which she fired. The thieves proved to be British Soldiers, who fled leaving the chickens behind, as the gun-shot brought the American Guard. The next day General George Washington and his party, among them James Pardee, Jr., came to the tavern to dinner and ate some of the chickens. James complimented Elizabeth on her bravery and laughingly remarked that he would return after the war and marry her. In the same spirit she replied, 'Come on." The pot in which the dinner was cooked was about a foot in diameter, and for many years was in the possession of Mary Susan Gerow (Mrs. Samuel West), a granddaughter of James Pardee, Jr."
