Mrs. Thomas' Rites Scheduled Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Olga Thomas, 85, of Boerne, Kendall County, widow of the late Dallas attorney and political leader Cullen F. Thomas, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Highway. Entombment will be in Sparkman Hillcrest Mausoleum.

She died Monday in Comfort, Kendall County.

She had moved to Boerne from Dallas in 1971.

She was the daughter of the late John L. Sheppard, an early-day congressman, and sister of the late U. S. Sen. Morris Sheppard.

Her husband, who died in 1938, took a seat in the Texas Legislature in 1894 and made an unsuccessful race for the U. S. Senate in 1922.

Mrs. Thomas was also a political leader, serving on the State Democratic Executive Committee. The former Olga Sheppard of Pittsburg, Camp County, spent much time in the capital and attended President Woodrow Wilson's 1913 inauguration and President William Howard Taft's silver wedding anniversary celebration.

She earned her bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., and her master's from Columbia University.

She served as Vice-president of the Public Affairs Luncheon Club and was a member of the Dallas Woman's Club, the Matheon Club, Jane Douglas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the Founds and Patriots of American, the Southern Memorial Association and Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

She is survived by a daughter, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister.
