Mr. A. J. Schulte, the well known coal mine owner, died at his residence No. 5012 Liberty Avenue.
He first saw the light of the world in Germany and traveled with his parents when aged 9 years to America and at the age of eleven took a job in a coal mine to support his mother as his father died shortly after their arrival. In 1869 he became the superintendent of the Ft. Pitt coal mine and in 1874 he acquired the Bower Hill and later the Bridgeville mines. The primary cause of death was asthma. He leaves behind a spouse and 10 children.
