Verna Dean Reed, life long resident of Knox City, Texas passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. She was 54. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 28, 2014 at Four Square Church in Knox City with her brother, Rev. Eddie Johnson, officiating. Interment will take place immediately following at Knox City Cemetery. Arrangements were made under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Thursday evening, March 27 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home located at 210 Avenue A.

One of 15 children, Verna Dean Johnson was born February 22, 1960 in Knox City to Amy Flye (Terry) and Natail Johnson. She graduated from Knox City High School and attended Amarillo College. She enjoyed playing bingo. Verna was a registered nurse where she worked at both Abilene Regional Hospital and Hendrick Medical Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister; and one brother.

Verna is survived by her children, Gary Reed and Shawn Reed, both of Abilene; 5 grandchildren; 6 brothers; 6 sisters; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers for Verna are Dale Robinson, Randy Shields, Gary Reed, Jimmy Flye, Terry Johnson, and Nathan Douglas.

Memorials can be given in Verna's name to Living Word Church.
