Ola Parsons Greene Walker, 93, of Hickory, a native and former resident of Watauga County, died March 13, 2014, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, after a brief struggle with pneumonia and leukemia.
She was born August 2, 1920, in Watauga County. She was a retired housekeeper for a Lutheran Home and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Zionville.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Greene Hodges and husband, Dennie, of Hickory; one granddaughter, Fredia Scruggs and husband, Wayne, of Hickory; one grandson, Jeff Hodges and wife, Donna, of Hickory; five great-granddaughters, Tiffany Scruggs, Mindy Scruggs, Makayla Hodges, Mackenzie Hodges, all of Hickory, and Lorrie Walker of Gas City, Ind.; three great-grandsons, Logan Scruggs of Hickory, David Walker and wife, Paula, of Kokomo, Ind., and Dale Walker and wife, Rose, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; she was also blessed to meet and welcome the fifth generation, great-great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Andrea Marr last year; two sisters, Ethel Jones of Todd, and Vergie Moretz of Boone; and one brother, James and wife, Elree, of Lenoir. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Greene; her second husband, Roy A. Walker; an infant son, Cecil Reed Greene; two sisters, Ophelia Watson and Lucille Watson, and three brothers, Howard, Clarence, and Junior Parsons.
Funeral services were held at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Scott Howard, Rev. Charles Patton, and Rev. Edwin Elmore. Burial in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
