Formerly of Avon, Raymond Eugene Powell, Columbus, died suddenly Sunday afternoon, Nov. 9, at that city. He was 49. Born Oct. 2, 1931 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Arthur J. and Edna W. (Spellman) Powell. His father, who survives, lives at Lucedale, Mississippi. He attended Lizton School and Arsenal Technical High School at Indianapolis. Mr. Powell, who was a civil service employee, was employed at Camp Atterbury. Affiliations include the Marion County Past Patrons and Matrons Association; Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and York Rite, all of Indianapolis and the Plainfield Order of Eastern Star. He was a past worthy Patron of the Queen Esther OES in Indianapolis. Mr. Powell was a former member of the Avon United Methodist Church and a past president of the Avon PTA. An Army veteran, he served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard.

Survivors are a son, Paul Michael Powell, Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Buchanan, Danville, and Miss Nancy J. Powell, Indianapolis; two half-brothers, Ronald D. Powell, Washington, D.C., and Kenneth A. Spellman, Indianapolis; and a grandson, Matthew Ryan Buchanan, Danville.

Masonic memorial services were Wednesday evening, Nov. 12, at Hall-Baker Funeral home, Plainfield. Rev. Roy Loudermilk officiated at the services held at the funeral home, Thursday afternoon, Nov. 13. Mr. Powell was buried at the Lizton K of P Cemetery.
