Suggested bio:

Jessie Meadows Dean, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away quietly at Christian Care Center on Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was 92 years old. She was born on November 25, 1919 in Naples, Texas to Mattie Murphy Meadows (Traylor) and John Damon Meadows who, along with her brother, Raymond Meadows, preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn, her brother, Hugh Meadows and his wife Kay of Hughes Springs, Texas, son, Jerry Dean and his wife Gina of Waxahachie, Texas, son, Fred Dean and his wife Judi of Dallas, Texas, and daughter, Martha Hernandez and her husband Dr. Ernest Hernandez of Garland, Texas. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jessie Meadows married Bennie L. Dean outside Gilmer, Texas in a roadside ceremony on August 22, 1936. The marriage continued for 59 years until his death in 1995.

They lived most of their lives in Pleasant Grove and Mama Dean reared her children as a stay-at-home Mom for many years. She was well known to be a wonderful from scratch cook and when her children were older, she went to work for the DISD in food service, later becoming a lunchroom manager. She was named Lunchroom Manager of the Year for 1983-84 and honored with a dinner presentation. When she retired as a manager at Seagoville, she decided to go back to work in a part-time capacity for another decade at several schools where she continued to make friends and be loved by all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and very active in a number of congregations over the years. She remained in her home after her husband's death, always with a kind and sweet spirit. She worked in her yard and garden and canned and kept her freezer full. She pieced quilt after quilt for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and then started quilting for the neighbors! She could always be counted on to bring food for the sick and to generously give of herself whenever she was needed.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Christian Care Center for their many kindnesses during her last years and especially during her final illness. Visitation with the family will on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 6:30pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, Texas. Services will be on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 2:00pm with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ChristianWorks for Children, Dallas, Texas 75240.
