ROCKDALE — Services for Cecil Hicks, 83 of Rockdale will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral home in Rockdale.
Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale
Mr. Hicks died Sunday, March 23, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 23, 1930, to L.A. and Clarice Keller Hicks in Hico. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on board the USS Colonial. He was an electrician for more than 50 years with Local Union 520 IBEW out of Austin. He worked at Alcoa as an electrical construction supervisor for more than 35 years. After he retired, he worked as a welder building cattle pens, gates, cattle guards and entry ways. He also was a pig, sheep and cattle rancher. He was a member of the Rockdale Ag Boosters and Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. He was Milam County Outstanding Volunteer in 1997 and Rockdale Fair Parade grand marshall in 2009. He also was a member of the Church of Christ in Port Lavaca and Carlsbad, N.M., as a deacon, and the Murray Street Church of Christ in Rockdale as an elder for 33 years. He was a Bible teacher, song leader and worked with the bus ministry.
He was preceded in death by a son, Weslie Duane "Pevine" Hicks on July 25, 2012.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Hicks of Rockdale; a son, Leslie Hicks of Rockdale; a daughter, Susan Hicks of Rockdale; a sister, Betty Christian of Hico; a brother, Mack Hicks of Hico; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday 25, 2014, at the funeral home
