Melvin Clarence Plunkett was the son of George P. and Minnie E. (Watson) Plunkett.

Melvin C. Plunkett, 59, died at 10 PM Sunday, Aug. 7, 1977, at Veterans Hospital, Indianapolis, where he had been a patient for a week, after being in ill health for four years. Born at Freeland Park, he lived most of his life at Lafayette. In 1946, he was married to Gladys Patterson, who survives.

Mr. Plunkett was a 20-year employee of the Lafayette Post Office, working in the maintenance department until retiring in 1975. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving with his widow are three brothers, Robert Plunkett, Carl Plunkett, both of San Diego, CA, and George Plunkett of Clarks Hill. Service Aug. 10, Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, the Rev. Henry C. Stolldorf officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
