Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 502 South Iowa Ave, Payette, Idaho at 10:00 am, Saturday, March 29, 2014. Leona was born April 3, 1918 in Rockland, Idaho to George D. Peck and Margaret Jane Robinson. She was one of eight children, George Selby Peck, Queena Peck, Melissa Ione Peck, Archie Ray Peck, Glen Dale Peck, Ivan Peck, and Harvey D. Peck. She grew up in Pocatello, Idaho, where, as a 5th grader, she met a classmate named Dwaine Earl Griffith. Lee and Dwaine married August 28, 1938 in Pocatello, and were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple, June 30, 1954. Leona was preceded in death by her husband on January 4, 2010.
During their marriage Leona and Dwaine lived in Pocatello; Salmon, Idaho; Payette, Idaho; Las Vegas, Nevada; Ontario, Oregon; Boise, Idaho; Renton, Washington; Post Falls, Idaho; Nampa, Idaho; and eventually moved back to Payette, Idaho, to be near their children and grandchildren.
Leona is survived by her youngest brother, Harvey D. Peck, in Pocatello, Idaho; her children Sharon Leona Parker (Bellevue, Idaho), Patricia Diane Stowell (Payette, Idaho), John Dwaine Griffith (McCall, Idaho and Bainbridge Island, Washington); and 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Leona enjoyed life. She loved telling stories of her life and in sharing her amazing “Christmas Fudge” with relatives, neighbors, and even various merchants. She had a spirit of love, which everyone who met her soon realized. She never wanted one to say goodbye, she would say, “Don’t say goodbye, say alveterzane (auf wiedersehen).” Which means, “Until we meet again.”
