Ann Louise ("Louise") (Kannady) Day was born on December 21, 1905, to parents James Elbie Kannady and Cora Alice DeLong in San Angelo, Texas.

On August 2, 1932, Louise married Gilbert Gray Day in San Angelo. Louise was Gilbert's second wife, his first dying in a railroad crossing accident in 1929. In the late 1930s, Gilbert's daughter from his first marriage, Jo Ann, would join the household. Jo Ann had been raised primarily by Gilbert's parents before then.

After marrying Gilbert, Louise moved a number of times as Gilbert took jobs in west Texas; Waldron, Arkansas; Roswell, New Mexico; Douglas, Arizona; Calexico, California; and Phoenix, Arizona. Louise and Gilbert eventually settled on a farm south of Roswell, New Mexico, where Gilbert raised chickens.

A few years after Gilbert's death in 1970, Louise moved to Pinetop, Arizona, near a cabin owned by her step daughter. She then moved to Homeland, California, to be near her sister Minnie Lee. Late in life, she moved to Paradise Valley, Arizona, living with and near her step daughter and her step daughter's family.
