1930-2013
Wilma "Vonnie" Nevonne (Muirheid) Lambert passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at her home in Commerce City, CO with her family by her side.
Vonnie was born on September 8, 1930 in Yuma, Colorado to Vilas Muirheid and Nellie (McNichols) Muirheid and was the oldest of three children. Preceded in death by her parents, Vilas and Nellie Muirheid, a sister, Diane Muirheid Kelley and a brother Rudean "Dean" Muirheid.
She lived in numerous places before calling Denver home and graduated from South High School in Denver. While walking down Broadway, with a group of girlfriends, she met her future husband, Bob Lambert. They were married in November, 1948. Her one and only request was a house and to never move. Little did she know that request would be fulfilled for over 60 years. They moved into a house in Commerce City in the summer of 1952 and never moved again. A promise fulfilled.
She retired from Sears after working for 35 years at the store in Cherry Creek. Her first assignment was working at the lunch counter and was later promoted to Manager of the Sears Employee Cafeteria. After the closing of the cafeteria, she worked in the tool and lawnmower department.
Life was full of a variety of activities. Camping and fishing were part of family life, especially within the state of Colorado. She loved to read and did not miss many movies at the Monaco Drive-In. There was always a new crochet project by her chair. Volleyball was for fun and she played on a team in Commerce City. Her cooking and canning were enjoyed by many people in her life and she could make the best bread and rolls.
Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts were intertwined through out her life. Her first experience was with Bob and then later Connie and Nellie. She thoroughly enjoyed having all of the kids around. There are many young ladies and guys that knew her simply as Mom or Grandma and remember her kindness and willingness to help. And we can't forget the smile!
Family and people were at the top of her list! Children, friends, relatives, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren...they were all welcome and she never missed an opportunity to be with them. Her Thanksgiving Day dinners were looked forward to each year. It was a time for food, thanks, laughs and love.
She lovingly took care of her husband, Bob, during the last 10 years of his life. Together they complimented each other and were happily married for over 50 years. Filling the void was not easy but she was strong, faced the challenge and lived life to the fullest. She will forever be missed by many friends and family. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" L. Lambert. She is survived by: a son and daughter; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service was held Tuesday, November 19th, 10:30 AM, Aspen Mortuary, 6580 E. 73rd, Commerce City, CO; interment 1 PM, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
