He served in the United States Army from December of 1942 until November of 1945 as a radio operator. He was certified to send and receive in International Morse Code.
Roy married the late Josephine (nee Raymond) Barber on October 16, 1946. They were married for 53 years before her passing. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and all six siblings.
Roy worked many vocations and retired from Boilermakers 107 as a Construction Welder. He was an avid card player who enjoyed playing with family and friends, many of which he made at the Menominee Senior Center.
Roy is survived by his eight children: Mike (Sue) of Bowler, WI; Mary (Don) Hass of Marinette, WI; Larry (Gerry) of Green Bay, WI; Lynn (Sandra) of Marinette, WI; Dale (Sandy) of Menominee, MI; Clark of Manitowoc, WI; Raymond (Cathleen) of Marinette, WI and Marty of Marinette, WI;
also 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Family and friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell funeral home, in Marinette, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. A service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Chaplain Karen Anne Hanson of Heartland Hospice officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, next to his beloved "Jo".
