Mary Jewell "Susie" Smith Hatley, age 86, of Locust, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at her daughter's home.
Susie was born August 25, 1927, in Stanly County to the late Vander Lee Smith and the late Leether Burris Smith. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, O.D. Hatley in 2009.
Susie is survived by two daughters, Wendy Helms (husband Irving) of Locust, and Gwen Waldrup (husband Jim) of Boiling Springs; a son, David Hatley (wife Pam) of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Gene Smith and Roy Lee Smith; and two sisters, Mildred Bunting and Marie Paden.
The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle, officiated by Rev. Irvin Houser.
