William disappeared in 1884 while on a trip to a fair at Marion, Smyth Co VA, and his wife and children never heard from him again. With time, Mary remarried Aaron Lilburn "Leo" Hurt and had 4 more children.
William was alive...
He is named in his mother's will in 1887. Her obituary says that all of her children were with her at the end.
17 Dec 1910 William wrote a letter to his brother Joseph, mailed from Queensland, Australia.
30 Jul 1918 William is named as a surviving relative of his sister Alice in her obituary. It stated that he was in Italy on business.
